Arabica was being cultivated on other islands prior to it being brought to Cuba from Martinique.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCultivation increased when French farmers who had been focused on coffee in Haiti, fled the Haiti Slave Revolt. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLooking for other suitable places to plant coffee, many settled in the Sierra Maestra Mountains in the eastern part of Cuba.
