Product Overview
Full Cupping Notes

At City roast level, the coffee grounds had a dark spice/black tea note that brings delicate complexity to the fragrance, along with honey sweetness, and hints of dried berries. There's a lot of depth to the sweetness in the wet aroma, layered raw sugar notes back filled the steam, accented by notes of five spice spice and tea cake. It proved to be a nice precursor to the cup, which showed well developed sweetness in the light roasts, with fruit and spiced flavors that cover a lot of ground. Flavors of sugar in the raw are accented by notes of raisin, black currant, and citrus. The acidic impression is vividly bright in the light roasts, vibrant lemon and orange accents mingle with complex loose leaf tea and spice notes in the aroma. The profile cools to hints of Darjeeling tea, Bergamot peel, and warm spice, like clove and Allspice. It's a compelling dark roasted Kenya too, Full City being the darkest roast test we've tried so far. It showed impressive body, juicy in texture which helped to underscore plump dark fruit notes that accented the more prominent bittersweet chocolate tones.

Origin & Farm Notes

Karindundu factory is situated just outside of Karatina town, in the Nyeri district. Like many other Kenya coffees we carry, it is a "factory" that is part of a much larger cooperative society (including other factories we carry like Gatomboya, and Gaturiri). The Karindundu Factory serves roughly 1800 cooperative members in the outlying region, who deliver their coffee cherry to the wet mill where it is then processed onsite. So much effort is put into preparation, which is apparent when you cup these coffees. It also helps that the varietals grown are mostly SL-28 and SL-34 strains. This is a peaberry selection, which makes up about 3% of the harvest. Peaberries are small round coffee beans that occur when one of the two embryos inside the cherry dies. With no other bean to mature next to, the surviving coffee seed forms to the rounded shape of the cherry. They are separated from the regular "flat" beans using screen shakers that allows only the small, round coffee to pass through.
