Product Overview
Full Cupping Notes

For fans of fruity naturals, dry process Kageyo should be on your short list! It boasts juicy sweetness, with a profile of big fruit flavors from start to finish. Straight from the grinder, the coffee displayed smells of both dried and fresh berries, fruit salad, and tropical accents. Once the hot water was poured, the aroma pulled out a nice mix of fruit and chocolate, dried strawberry, mango, and berry truffle. In the brew, the flavors are juicy and clean, and perform very well at a variety of roast levels. City roasts brimmed with juicy fruit flavors, like blueberry, ripe green melon, peaches, and mango. The flavor profile is expansive, and cools to notes of fig filling, Medjool date, and strawberry preserves. The acidic impression was moderate for dry process coffee, and had some striking similarities to black tea in the way it pulls at your tongue. Full City roasts developed a bittersweet flavor of high % cacao bar, with a fig hint in the finish that reminded me of fig jam made with warming spices.

Origin & Farm Notes

The washing station Kageyo lies in the highlands surrounding the southeastern shores of Lake Kivu in Rwanda's Ngororero district. It's not too far from another washing we purchase coffee from, Gitesi, and is a coffee that hits a similar quality target. The has been renovated in the last few years, expanding their milling infrastructure in order to increase their production capabilities (thanks to your support!). The association is made up of small farmers situated around this 2000 meter wet mill, and coffee in the region is some of the highest altitudes we see in all of Rwanda. Like much of Rwanda, the coffee planted in the region is Bourbon variety. It's worth mentioning that this should not be confused with "Kigeyo", a name that you may recognize from other cafe menus.
