Nicaragua Buenos Aires Peaberry
Nicaragua Buenos Aires Peaberry
Nicaragua Buenos Aires Peaberry
Such a pleasant brew in the middle roasts, bass notes are balanced by moderate sweetness, accented by hints of caramel, creamy nut, dark cocoa, and zested citrus. City+ to Full City+. Good for espresso.
Full Cupping Notes
Grinding a City+ roast let off a dark sugar sweetness, nutty accents, and cocoa. Pouring the hot water brought up caramel notes, buttery sweet, with a note of toasted nuts, and more dark, bittering tones. This was such a pleasant coffee to drink, especially in the City+ to Full City range where bass notes were balanced by moderately sweet undertones. I found the level of sweetness and low tones to be very well matched, nothing too intrusive or commanding of attention. Just the right intensity of a central flavor component. The coffee had notes of creamy caramels, raw pistachio, and a bit of marzipan in the aftertaste. There's also a touch of acidity that comes off like zested orange. Full City roasts produce textured cocoa flavors, high % cocoa solids dark chocolate, with much heavier body than the light roast.

Origin & Farm Notes
This peaberry microlot is from Finca Buenos Aires Estates in Dipilto growing region of Nueva Segovia. The altitude at Buenos Aires ranges from 1200 - 1500 meters above sea level, and most of what we buy from them is Caturra variety, along with smaller lots of Java and Maracaturra. This year they separated out some of the peaberries at their dry mill, and offered us 5 bags. While it didn't taste all that different than the Caturra lot we purchased (sold as "Finca Buenos Aires"), we're always a little fascinated by these little peaberry beans, and could't pass up the opportunity to add it to our shipment. If you've not seen peaberry coffee before, they're small round-shaped beans that's occur when one of two flat beans fails to germinate inside a coffee cherry. Every tree produces peaberries, and it's estimated that they make up around 5% of the harvest.
