Southeast Asia Green Coffee

Southeast Asia started coffee production as a result of colonization, but origins within the region have their own unique coffee traditions (and coffee culture!) that are anything but old-world. Robusta coffee plants were favored because of their ability to adapt to the more humid climates of Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines, and liberica spread to regions that could cultivate it. Arabica also found its way to Indonesia, and later to the rest of Southeast Asia, though it was restricted to higher altitudes. Learn more in our Coffee Library.
